Conventional design wisdom: In a small space, use light, bright colors to make the space seem larger. Spaces that are too dark will feel like a cave instead of a home.
Well, nobody told the designers of the following spaces. In fact, I can’t turn around in the design blogosphere without seeing black walls and black and white rooms. The austere spaces are highlighted by warm woods, crisp colors, or chrome accents.
Take a look at the following and ask yourself: If a designer wanted to use black in a big way in your home, would you go for it?



I think it looks amazing in theory… I could maybe see it working well in a parlor. But then again, I don’t have a parlor! It certainly has a sophisticated look!
I agree – fabulous in theory but may have some difficulties during practical application
